Defense Shines As Men's Soccer Draws 0-0 With Roanoke

Box Score

(ASHLAND, Va.) – The full 110 minutes wasn't enough for either team as Randolph-Macon and Roanoke fought to a scoreless draw on a damp Tuesday evening. It was the mutual conference opener for both teams.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 0, Roanoke 0

Venue: Nunnally Field

Records: Randolph-Macon 5-2-1, 0-0-1 ODAC; Roanoke 5-2-2, 0-0-1 ODAC

How It Happened

  • A physical game broke out in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net. Only six shots came in the opening frame, and only three of those were on target. All three came in the first nine minutes, but Zach Behe made two back-to-back saves in the sixth and seventh minutes, while Adam Braithwaite (Fr., Chesterfield, Va. / Matoaca) followed with a save in the ninth.
  • The second half started similar to the first as each team found prime opportunities. Penny Senior (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica / Meadowbrook) had a pair of shots sandwiched around one for the Maroons' Liam Camilleri. All three were saved with Braithwaite making a diving stab to punch away Camilleri's kick to the upper right 90.
  • Roanoke had the first opportunity in overtime with a shot by the Maroons' Michael Ramsey, but another diving stab by Braithwaite kept the game going.
  • The lone shot in the second overtime period came from Roanoke, but Braithwaite made another incredible save to preserve the clean sheet.

Inside The Numbers

  • Randolph-Macon outshot the Maroons 18-13 overall in the game. The bulk of those shots came in the second half as the Yellow Jackets took 12 chances. Three each came in the first half and the first overtime period for RMC.
  • Corner kicks favored the Maroons by a 9-5 margin. All but one for the Jackets occurred in the second half with the final one coming late in the second overtime.
  • This was Braithwaite's fourth shutout of the season and the team's fifth.

  • Two of the last three games against Roanoke has ended 0-0.
