Men's Soccer Overpowers Mary Baldwin

Box Score

(ASHLAND, Va.) – The flood gates opened for Randolph-Macon as it defeated Mary Baldwin in the first meeting between the schools in men's soccer. The Yellow Jackets opened with two early goals and exploded for five more in the second, including four in a five minute span, for the win.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 7, Mary Baldwin 0

Venue: Nunnally Field

Records: Randolph-Macon 2-1, Mary Baldwin 1-2-1

How It Happened

  • It took just 10 minutes for the Yellow Jackets to get on the board. They were awarded a free kick just outside the right corner of the box where Colton Howell (Sr., Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) placed the ball on the near side. Connor Lorenz (Sr., Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) timed his jump perfectly and got enough of a touch to head it in near the far post.
  • A substitution led directly to the second goal in the 22nd minute. Just 54 seconds after entering the game, Hawkins Adcock (So., Chester, Va. / Thomas Dale) dribbled down the right side into the box and sent a laser inside the near post.
  • The Jackets had a similar start in the second half. Exactly 11 minutes in, Bogue Cummings (Jr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) scored to the upper right 90 after Penny Senior (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica / Meadowbrook) centered him up from the left side.
  • Just 2:02 later, the roles reversed and Senior scored on a beautiful bicycle kick from the left corner of the box on a pass from the right side of the field from Cummings.
  • Senior wasn't done as 1:35 after that, he drilled a free kick from just outside the right corner of the box.
  • The sixth goal came on a pass from Alec Mowry (Jr., Salem, Va. / Salem) as he centered to Chazz Jones (So., Trenton, N.J. / Trenton Catholic) from the right side.
  • Andres Garcia (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Bishop O'Connell) capped the scoring on a free kick from 28 yards out in the 83rd minute.

Inside The Numbers

  • Howell's assist was his second of the season and his 11th in 11 games dating back to the spring season.
  • The four second half goals came in a span of 4:52.
  • Senior was involved with three goals for the first time since the ODAC quarterfinals when he scored a hat trick against Guilford. Tonight he scored two goals and assisted another.
  • Adam Braithwaite (Fr., Chesterfield, Va. / Matoaca) wasn't called upon to often during the game as a result of the hi-octane Yellow Jackets offense, but when he was he made the stops. He finished with two saves on seven shots faced for his third clean sheet of the season.
  • The seven goals are the most the Yellow Jackets have scored since a 7-1 win against Fisher on October 13, 2013.
  • The seven goal differential is the largest margin of victory the Yellow Jackets have had since September 26, 1998 when they defeated Chowan 12-2.

Up Next

The Jackets remain at home and will host Berry for a Saturday morning affair. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
