How It Happened (Match 1 vs. Virginia Wesleyan)

  • The Yellow Jackets made quick work of the Marlins with a three-set sweep to advance to the championship. The Jackets never trailed at any point during the contest and the closest the Marlins got at any point to taking the lead was when the first set was tied at 19-all.
  • Immediately after the Jackets went on a 6-2 run to take the first game. The rally was aided by kills from Sydney Koch (Jr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson), Gracyn Draney (So., Forest, Va. / Jefferson Forest), Jordan Davis-Allen (So., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan), and Brooke Young (Fr., St. Leonard, Md. / Calvert).
  • The momentum carried over into the second set as the Jackets opened up with a 12-1 run to inundate the Marlins and forced them to call both timeouts by the 11th serve. Half of the Jackets points were scored on kills, while another two were service aces by Leslie Currie (Fr., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover).
  • The Marlins were able to chop away at the deficit and make the score 18-14, but Randolph-Macon closed the set with the final seven points.
  • That run continued to 14 consecutive points scored by the Jackets as they opened up the third with a 7-0 lead.
  • The Generals fought back to get within three at 23-20. However it was immediately answered by a kill by Koch and an ace by Young to secure the sweep.

Inside the Numbers (Match 1 vs. Virginia Wesleyan)

  • Koch led the team with 13 kills on 21 attempts with just one error for an incredible attack percentage of .571. She was also a force defensively as she went up for five of the eight blocks recorded by the Jackets.
  • Parker joined Koch in double figures with 12 kills. She also proved to be efficient defensively with four blocks.
  • Elsewhere on the defense Warlick led the team with 18 digs. Currie added 14 and Macquire Gubba (Jr., Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) picked up 12.
  • Setting up the attack was the duo of Gubba and Young who had 19 and 14 assists, respectively.
  • Of the 75 points over the three sets, 42 of them came on kills.
  • The Jackets limited the Marlins' hitters offensively to an attack percentage of .067. No one for the Marlins had more than eight kills.

How It Happened (Match 2 vs. Washington & Lee)

  • The opening set saw both teams go back-and-forth throughout. A Parker kill gave the Jackets a 14-13 lead in the middle of the set, but it would be their last advantage in the game. The Generals couldn't pull away, however, and R-MC was able to get back within one at 23-22 after a Megan Bost (Angier, N.C. / West Johnston) kill. The Generals scored the next two points to take the 1-0 lead.
  • A fast start in game two saw the Jackets go down 7-0, but they were able to climb back and tie it at 9-all after another Parker kill and an attack error. A Warlick kill tied the set once again at 11-11.
  • After the Generals regained the lead, three consecutive points on two kills by Davis-Allen and an ace by Parker put the Jackets within three at 22-19. However W&L answered with three of the final four points to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The final set saw the Yellow Jackets get close, but were kept arm's length away. Kills by Parker and Warlick made the score 8-6, but W&L started to extend its lead once again. The Jackets got within three once again at 13-10 after another Warlick kill before the Generals pulled away for the match win.
