How it Happened

  • The Yellow Jackets got off to a hot start as Arrington drilled a three off an assist from Williams just 30 seconds into the game.  They quickly built up their lead to 8-2 after a free throw and layup from Williams and a layup from Woods.  Arrington hit another three before Ferrum went on a run of their own to tie the game.
  • Ross finished a layup and Williams added another pair of free throws before Elise Knoblach (Glenville, Pa. / Delone Catholic) hit a free throw to give the Jackets a three-point lead headed into the second quarter.
  • R-MC came out hot again in the second quarter with Woods finishing an and-1 just 30 seconds into the period before Ross hit another layup and Arrington buried another three.  With seven minutes left in the quarter Williams hit a layup to extend the R-MC run to 10-0.
  • With four minutes left in the half freshman Devan Conrad (Parkville, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) hit a free throw to push the Jackets lead to 37-19.  With 50 seconds left in the half Williams finished off an And-1 to give the Jackets a 43-26 lead going into halftime.
  • Woods and Ross continued their strong games in the second half as Woods hit a layup and Ross hit a jump shot either side of a Hatfield free throw.  Both teams were locking up on the defensive end and there and an almost two-minute scoreless streak was broken by a Williams layup with four minutes to go.  Williams hit two more free throws before Conrad nailed a three-pointer to give the Jackets a 20-point lead.  Peyton Humphreys hit a free throw before Aimee DeBell (Studley, Va. / Saint Gertrude) made a layup with 1:44 left in the quarter as R-MC headed to the fourth quarter leading 60-43.
  • The Jackets came out firing again as Woods hit a layup before Ross added a jumper and a layup all within the first minute and 15 seconds of the final quarter.  Arrington would hit two more three-pointers in the game as the Jackets saw out the 74-56 result.
