ASHLAND, Va. – The points were spread around for Randolph-Macon Women's Volleyball in its bout against Randolph on Wednesday night. Twelve different players recorded at least one point as the team tallied a .254 hitting percentage en route to the conference opening victory against the WildCats.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Randolph 1 (25-13, 25-9, 13-25, 25-17)

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Crenshaw Gym

Records: Randolph-Macon (7-3, 1-0 ODAC), Randolph (5-4, 1-1 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • While Randolph was able to fight to the 3-3 tie, the Yellow Jackets outmatched the WildCats early. R-MC put the set nearly out of reach with a 12 point rally that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 15-3. Junior Mackenzie Loewe (Leonardtown, Md. / St. Mary's Ryken) earned a pair of service aces in the sequence and senior Alexia Wolfe (Midlothian, Va. / James River) tallied three kills in the run as well. Randolph collected a five point run late, but R-MC closed out the set with a 25-13 win.
  • Senior Angela Tender (Manassas, Va. / Stone Bridge) took care of tallying the first two points of the second set. She made a kill to lead off the scoring before putting down the service ace to put R-MC ahead 2-0. The Yellow Jackets continued to pace the set, never allowing a run of more than one for Randolph, while collecting multiple runs of its own in route to the 25-9 set victory. Sophomore Sydney Koch (Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) had a nice sequence where she was responsible for three of five R-MC points in the beginning stages of the frame.
  • Randolph earned a lead in the third set. The WildCats were able to get ahead 8-3 to force the R-MC timeout. Out of the timeout though, it was Randolph who remained in control. The WildCats put together a 7-1 run to go ahead 20-7. R-MC could not battle back from the early miscues and Randolph won the set 25-11. Freshman Jordan Davis-Allen (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) earned a service ace in the frame, while freshman Jasmin Hanson (Snowmass, Colo. / Aspen) earned two kills in the set.
  • The Yellow Jackets used that set loss as motivation heading into the fourth frame. R-MC earned six of the first seven points and kept the pressure on, never allowing more than two points in a row in the early stages of the set. R-MC got ahead 14-6 before the WildCats earned three points in a row, forcing an R-MC timeout. The Yellow Jackets came out of the timeout reenergized and scored twice -- once with a kill from sophomore Danielle LaRosa (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) and then with a service ace from freshman Grace Parker (Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII). R-MC eventually got ahead 21-11 thanks to a 5-1 run through the middle of the frame. The run included a pair of kills from senior Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover). Randolph collected a six-point rally late, but it was not enough as R-MC won the set 25-18 and earned the match victory.
