Men's Tennis Closes Season In Tournament At Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Randolph-Macon men's tennis closed out its season in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament in Greensboro with a 5-3 loss to second-seeded Guilford. R-MC was the seventh seed in this week's tournament. The Quakers move on to play Hampden-Sydney in the semifinals at Virginia Wesleyan this weekend. Randolph-Macon ends its season with an 8-9 record.

Randolph-Macon got the first win of the afternoon. Juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River), playing at #3 doubles, defeated Guilford's Jarad Gandy and Kai Glass 8-2. It was a similar result as the duo's matchup earlier this week against Guilford when the Randolph-Macon pair won 8-0. The pair finishes the season at 6-6.

Guilford got wins in the rest of doubles as GC's Tate Godwin and Graham Pearson defeated senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) 8-4 while the Quakers' Elijah Gregory and Mason Robb defeated sophomore Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York). Both matches were won by the score of 8-4.

With the 2-1 lead, Guilford also got the first win in singles as Godwin defeated Haines 6-0, 6-0.

From there, Randolph-Macon got a pair of wins that took the match to a 3-3 tie.

Sophomore Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) scored a 6-1, 6-2 win in #5 singles against Gandy. It was Aprahamian's second win of the week over a Guilford Quaker as he defeated Glass on Sunday. Aprahamian finishes the season with a 4-3 record.

Carter then got a victory at #6 singles. He defeated Glass 6-1, 6-3. Carter closes out his senior season with a winning record at 8-7 in singles.

But Guilford got wins at #3 and #4 singles as Gregory defeated Hein 6-2, 6-1 and Pearson defeated Moulton 6-2, 6-2. Moulton finishes the season 8-6 while Hein was 8-9 this season. Sarver's match with Robb was not completed as the two wins closed the match at a decision for Guilford 5-3.
