Men's Tennis Gets Trio of Wins Against Guilford

ASHLAND, Va. – Juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) blanked their Quaker opponents in doubles and sophomore Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) won in singles, but Guilford took the match victory 6-3 in Saturday afternoon conference action in Ashland. The team also honored senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) as the lone graduating member of the team.

The afternoon got underway with a pair of Guilford doubles wins. Tate Godwin and Graham Pearson defeated Carter and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) 8-2 in #1 doubles. GC also got wins from Elijah Gregory and Mason Robb In #2 doubles as they defeated Moulton and sophomore Grant Sarver 8-3.

Haines and Berry defeated Jarad Gandy and Logan Glass 8-0 in #3 doubles. It marked the duo's fifth win of the season.

In singles, GC got wins in the top four spots, ensuring victory for the Quakers, who finish the season 12-4 and 9-1 in the conference.

Godwin got the better of Haines 6-0, 6-0 while Robb defeating Sarver 6-3, 6-0 in #1 and #2 singles respectively. Pearson defeated Carter 6-3, 6-4 in #4 singles as well.

Gregory and Hein needed a ten-point tie break to break their match. Hein won the first set 7-5 while Gregory won the second set by the same score. In the end, Gregory won the 10-2 tie-break and got the final victory of the afternoon for GC.

Moulton was close to sweeping Gandy, but settled for the big 6-0, 6-1 victory in #5 singles. It marked Moulton's eighth win of the season.

Aprahamian also locked in on a tough victory. He lost the first set 4-6. But the sophomore launched the big comeback in the second set, winning 7-5. He finalized his match victory with a ten-point tie break win 10-5.

Randolph-Macon finishes the season 8-8 and 4-6 in the ODAC and will await more information on the ODAC Tournament field, which will be released tomorrow evening.
