Aprahamian, Berry, Haines Win vs Southern Va.

ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) scored his second singles victory of the season while the duo of juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) won their doubles match, but Southern Virginia won down the rest of the lineup as R-MC dropped a non-conference match to the Knights 7-2. SVU moved to 13-3 on the season while R-MC moved to 6-4.

#3 doubles duo of Haines and Berry secured R-MC's first victory of the afternoon. They fought off a run by T.J. Snelson and Zac Bowers at the end to secure the 8-5 victory. It marked the duo's fourth win of the season.

But the Knights gave trouble to the Yellow Jackets' #1 and #2 doubles teams. The duo of senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) secured a lone game in a 1-8 loss to Tanner O'Brien and Andrew Blonquist.

#2 team of Aprahamian and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) also siphoned a single game, but dropped their match 1-8. It was the duo's first pairing of the season.

But Aprahamian scored a win in the singles competition. He won the first set 6-4. But his opponent, Zac Bowers, secured the second set 2-6. That forced a ten-point deciding set, which Aprahamian won 10-7 and getting the match win 1-0.

Southern Virginia was able to win the rest of the singles competition.

Haines was defeated 1-6, 0-6 by SVU's Paul Monson in the #1 singles slot. Hein was able to get two games against his opponent, Ben Spencer, but Spencer won the match 1-6, 1-6.

Carter also got a pair of games inside the second set, but was not able to overcome Tanner O'Brien, losing 0-6, 2-6

Moulton took a set from his opponent Andrew Blonquist. Blonquist won the first set 2-6. But then Moulton got the better of Blonquist in the second set, winning 6-1. That forced a third set, which Blonquist captured 0-1.

The #5 singles competitor for R-MC, Berry, retired in the first set.

Randolph-Macon will face Randolph on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
