ASHLAND, Va. – Bridgewater College won the entire doubles competition and three of the top four singles matchups to secure the 6-3 win in conference action in Ashland on Saturday afternoon. R-MC fell to 5-2 and 1-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while BC moved to 6-3 on the season, including 3-0 in the conference.

Bridgewater dominated the doubles competition, winning #1, #2 and #3. Joe Pillenbeck and Josh Rodgers defeated R-MC #1 team of senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) 2-8. BC's #2 Nate Horner and Freddie Roberts defeated sophomores Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) 3-8. The #3 duo of juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Sprinfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) were bested by Emmett Johnson and Kris Stokes by the score 3-8 as well.

With the 3-0 lead heading into singles, R-MC faced a tough uphill battle. BC's #1 singles, Pillenbeck, did not make it easier, defeating R-MC's #1, Haines, 4-6, 4-6. Rodgers also won, defeating Sarver in the #2 spot, though Sarver was able to force a tiebreak set before eventually dropping the match 3-6, 6-4, 0-1. Bridgewater added a sixth win in the #4 singles slot as Roberts defeated Carter 3-6, 0-6.

But Randolph-Macon did get wins in the #3, #5 and #6 singles. Hein defeated Johnson in the #3 spot, winning 6-1, 7-6. Berry got the better of Horner in the #5 singles slot 6-1, 6-0. Aprahamian defeated Stokes 6-4, 6-3 in his first match of the season.

Randolph-Macon will face Washington College tomorrow at 1:00 PM at the Banks Tennis Center in Ashland.
