Men's Tennis Felled By W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. – Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis suffered a 9-0 setback at Washington and Lee Tuesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets move to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.

Washington and Lee, the preseason favorite in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, topped the doubles competition in all three matches. The No. 1 duo of senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein  (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) were not able to overcome the Generals' No. 1 duo of Harry Shepherd and Mitchell Thomas, losing 8-0. Sophomore Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) were able to win five games, but lost the set 8-5. Junior Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Sprinfield) and junior Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) were also close to their competition, but succumbed 8-4 out of the No. 3 doubles spot.

No. 1 singles competitor Haines faced Shepherd in the singles competition where Shepherd won 6-0, 6-1. From the No. 2 spot, Sarver was not able to beat Thomas, losing 6-1, 6-0. Hein also lost in the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0. Carter was able to win the most games of the afternoon for R-MC, winning four games in the second set, but lost overall 6-0, 6-4 from the No. 4 spot. Moulton was also able to win a game but lost 6-0, 6-1. Berry registered a single game win as well, but lost 6-0, 6-1 to his opponent in the No. 6 spot.

Randolph-Macon has its home opener at the Banks Tennis Center on Tuesday against Pfeiffer at 2:00 PM.
