How It Happened
- Randolph-Macon did not wait long for its first offensive chance. Twenty-two seconds into the game, freshman Judge Morgan (Okinawa, Japan / Kubasaki) struck a shot that required the Guilford keeper get in action early to make the save.
- A few minutes later, in the eighth minute, Astruc finished a cross from fellow junior Isaac Myers (Littlestown, Pa. / Gettysburg Area), slotting the ball into the goal after the ball deflected off a Quaker player. It marked Astruc's second goal and Myers' first assist of the season.
- The goal remained the only mark of the first half. The Randolph-Macon defense, led by Myers, shut out the Guilford offense from even attempting a shot in the first period.
- The Quakers got a few offensive opportunities early on in the period, but nothing proved extremely dangerous.
- Astruc hit the net again, as his third goal of 2018 deflected off the goalie and went in following his corner kick.
- That goal opened to flood gates for R-MC's offense as senior Brad Robertson (Mechanicsville, Va. / Atlee) scored about three minutes later, hitting a free kick from around 23 yards out. It marked his first goal of the season.
- In the 72nd minute, junior Josh Beeker (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) took a pass from senior Andrew Gyimesi (Midlothian, Va. / James River), and sent it past the keeper, scoring his first goal of the season. The goal was setup by a Guilford turnover in the defensive zone.
Key Players
- Defensively, Myers led the team, helping R-MC outshoot Guilford 16-8 and proving to be an important part of keeping the defense completely clean of shots in the first half.
- Senior Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) made a lone save in the second half and marked his fourth clean sheet of 2018. R-MC's defense was also credited with a team save.
- Beeker proved to pace the R-MC team through the midfield, pushing his teammates with solid energy throughout the win.
- Astruc led R-MC with six shots, with five coming on goal. Junior Christian Torres (Stafford, Va. / C.D. Hylton) also had a trio of shots. Astruc also took a pair of R-MC's five corner kicks on the day. Freshman Jake Miklovic (Alexandria, Va. / Bishop Ireton) also took a pair of tries at the corner.
