ASHLAND, Va. – The R-MC men's tennis team lost 7-2 to Centre on Sunday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center. Freshman Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va./ Mills Godwin) led the Jackets, winning both his singles and doubles match.

R-MC falls to 2-4 for the season after the loss, while Centre improves to 4-4.

At doubles, Sarver and junior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va./ St. Christopher's) picked up a point for R-MC at the number one spot. The duo beat Luke Brooks and Logan Henize 8-2. At number three doubles, senior Pablo Bordas (Caracas, Venzuela/ Briar Woods) and sophomore Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va./ West Springfield) had a close match losing 8-5.

In singles, Sarver picked up the only point for R-MC. The freshman beat Trey Akmon 6-3, 6-4. Two singles matches would go into a deciding third set for R-MC.

At number four, senior Alex Curnow (Culpepper, Va./ Midlothian) lost his first set to Luke Brooks 4-6. He would then rebound in the second, winning 6-3. In the deciding third set, Curnow would fall 6-4.

At number four senior Stuart McCroskey (Newport News, Va./ Menchville) lost in three sets to Matthew Ko. McCroskey dropped the first set 7-5, but would win set two 6-4 before Ko won set three 6-1.

R-MC will be back in action on Wednesday, March 22 for two matches against the University of Virginia at the Banks Tennis Center.
