ASHLAND, Va.—Senior Tom Lewis (Charlottesville, Va. / Western Albemarle) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 Singles as the Randolph-Macon men's tennis team handled Roanoke 8-1 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (11-4, 6-4 ODAC) held a 3-0 advantage over Roanoke (8-8, 6-4 ODAC) after doubles competition and claimed five of six singles matches to notch their third straight win to conclude the regular season.
Lewis paired with junior Alex Curnow (Culpeper, Va. / Midlothian) to win 9-7 at No. 2 Doubles while fellow senior John Adam (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) teamed with sophomore Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's) to post an 8-2 victory at No. 1 Doubles. Junior Pablo Bordas (Caracas, Venezuela / Briar Woods) and freshman Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) added an 8-2 win at No. 3 Doubles.
In singles competition, Haines and Carter registered 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-3 wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Junior Stuart McCroskey (Newport News, Va. / Menchville) powered to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 Singles. Curnow dropped the first set 4-6 before rallying to win 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 Singles.
The Yellow Jacket win today broke the tie for fourth place in the conference standings. R-MC will hold the No. 4 seed in the 2016 ODAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal match at the Banks Tennis Center on Sunday, May 1. Additional tournament information will be released next week after all teams have completed the regular season.
