Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team were defeated by Lynchburg by a score of 2-1. Freshman Anthony Astruc (Glen Allen, Va./ Benedictine) scored his sixth goal of the season just five minutes into the contest to give R-MC the lead.
After great ball movement from the Yellow Jackets, junior midfielder Liam Hogan (Haymarket, Va./ Battlefield) threaded a pass into Astruc's feet, who one on one with the goalkeeper, slotted the ball in the back of the net with his right foot.
The game was a physical affair, as both teams combined for 38 fouls and seven yellow cards.
Junior goalkeeper Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) made two huge saves in the first half off of set plays to keep the Yellow Jackets in the lead.
Lynchburg equalized off a cross from the right side, put in by Nate Berning.
Second half saw both teams trade possession, as neither team created many clear goal scoring opportunities. At the back for the Yellow Jackets, the defensive line was led by the freshman duo of Paul Duffy (Salem, Va./ Salem) and Isaac Myers (Littlestown, Pa./ Gettysburg).
The Hornets scored the winning goal in the 60th minute off of a corner kick with a near post header from Fredy Flores.
Breslin recorded six saves on the night. He has now recorded 43 saves for the season.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-2-2 and 2-1 in the ODAC with the loss. The Hornets improve to 9-0-2 and 3-0 in the ODAC.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday, October 21 when it travels to Shenandoah. The next home match will be on October 18th versus Hampden-Sydney.
