BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Junior Tom Lewis (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) earned victories in singles as well as doubles as the fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon men's tennis team lost 5-4 at fourth-seeded Bridgewater Monday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (8-7) won two of three doubles to take the early lead. Seniors Ryan Byrd (Toano, Va./Warhill) and Ira Usry (Columbia, S.C./Hammond) combined to win at No. 1 Doubles 8-6. Lewis teamed with freshman Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) to take No. 3 Doubles 8-5. The Eagles captured No. 2 Doubles 8-3.
Four of the six singles matches went three sets. Lewis won at No. 6 Singles 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. Sophomore Alex Curnow (Culpepper, Va./Midlothian) was victorious at No. 5 Singles 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. BC won the top four singles, including three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
