ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's tennis team won all six singles matches and all three doubles in shutting out Hampden-Sydney 9-0 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Banks Tennis Center.
Seniors Ryan Byrd (Toano, Va./Warhill) and Ira Usry (Columbia, S.C./Hammond) won 8-5 at No. 1 Doubles. Byrd rolled 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 Singles, while Usry posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 Singles for the Yellow Jackets (5-4, 2-4).
Senior Connor Hoerr (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) and junior John Adam (Vienna, Va./James Madison) won 8-1 at No. 2 Doubles. Hoerr won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 Singles, while Adam rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 Singles.
Junior Tom Lewis (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) and sophomore Alex Curnow (Culpeper, Va./Midlothian) won 8-1 at No. 3 Doubles. Curnow won in a third-set tie-breaker at No. 5 Singles, while Lewis recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 Singles against the Tigers (2-13, 1-8).
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Sunday, April 12 for a 1 p.m. ODAC match against Randolph.
