Box Score FARMVILLE, Va.—Junior Jack Maxey (Salem, Va. / Salem) found the back of the net in the 62nd minute as the Randolph-Macon men's soccer team was edged 2-1 by Hampden-Sydney in double overtime Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers (7-8, 2-7 ODAC) scored in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Maxey scored for the Yellow Jackets (8-8, 4-5 ODAC) in the 62nd minute to knot the score at 1-1.
The score remained tied at the end of regulation. No team scored in the first overtime. The Tigers found the back of the net late in the second overtime to claim the 2-1 victory.
Hampden-Sydney held a 19-18 advantage in shots. R-MC recorded 10 shots in the first period and added six in the second period. The Yellow Jackets registered two shots in the first overtime. Sophomore Bryan Lutz (Fairfax, Va. / W. T. Woodson) led the Yellow Jackets with four shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va. / W. T. Woodson) recorded five saves, one save in each period of regulation and three in overtime.
The Yellow Jackets return to action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Shenandoah.
