Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Logan McHugh (Churchville, Md./West Nottingham Academy), freshman Brian Lutz (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and junior Caleb Hatcher (West Point, Va./West Point) each scored for the victors as Randolph-Macon posted a 3-1 victory over Lynchburg Friday afternoon in ODAC men's soccer action to kick off Homecoming Weekend for the Yellow Jackets.
McHugh was taken down in the box by the LC goalkeeper 14:04 into the match. He converted the penalty kick to give the Yellow Jackets (4-12, 2-8) the early lead. Lutz took a pass from junior Greg Noordanus (Leiderdorp, Netherlands/Cape Henry Collegiate) and found the back of the net with one second remaining in the first half as R-MC took a 2-0 lead at intermission.
The Yellow Jackets kept the pressure on in the second half. Hatcher finished on a long pass from sophomore Sam Bowen (Collegeville, Pa./The Haverford School) in the 77th minute as the lead grew to 3-0.
The Hornets (10-6, 7-3 ODAC) avoided the shutout as Fredy Flores scored with just over three minutes remaining.
LC had a 20-7 advantage on shots, including 11-3 in the first half. Hatcher was the only Yellow Jacket with multiple shots and he had two.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Bly (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) recorded six saves for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon concludes its season on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Shenandoah.
