scored four times, but fell 5-4 at home to Roanoke to kick off ODAC
play.
Senior defender
Brock
Barbeau (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) scored 50
seconds into the contest on an assist by senior midfielder David Sullivan
(Middletown, Md./Middletown) as the Jackets (0-1, 2-3) took the
early lead.
Freshman defender
Jack Maxey
(Salem, Va./Salem), whose father is the President of Roanoke
College, tallied an unassisted goal just over three minutes in to
give R-MC a 2-0 advantage.
The Maroons (1-0,
5-0) got on the board early in the 10th minute before freshman
defender Sam
Bowen (Collegeville, Pa./The Haverford School) found the back
of the net in the 12th minute as the Jackets took a 3-1
edge.
Roanoke added a goal in the 22nd
minute to pull to within one at 3-2.
The Maroons tied
it in the 59th minute before sophomore forward Andrew Oakes
(Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) scored in the 55th minute to give
R-MC a 4-3 advantage.
Roanoke added a goal in the 59th
minute to tie the score at 4 and tallied the game-winner in the
89th minute.
Senior goalkeeper
Cris Rowe (Rome, Ga./recorded five saves for the
Jackets.
R-MC returns to
action on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. at Lynchburg.
