ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis improved their record at home to 6-0 with a 7-2 win over Hampden-Sydney Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, April 13th when they travel to NCAA Division I Norfolk State.
Connor Hoerr and Michael Baxter gave R-MC their first point when they shutout No. 1 doubles opponents Zach King and Houghton Flanagan 8-0. After H-SC took the No. 2 doubles match, Jody Cox and Tom Lewis battled for a 9-7 win to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 advantage through doubles play.
Randolph-Macon carried that momentum into singles play where Hoerr knocked off King in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Baxter won in the No. 2 position 6-4, 6-1 over David Dodson and John Adam scored a No. 3 singles victory 6-4, 6-3.
R-MC pulled away in the match as Ira Usry picked up a straight sets win 6-2, 6-4 and Lewis rallied to win in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
With the win, Randolph-Macon finishes 6-0 on their home court for the 2013 season and improves to 3-6 in the ODAC.
