Box Score Ashland, VA -- Sarah Parsons led three Yellow Jackets in double figures but Bridgewater overcame Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball 72-55 in Ashland on Saturday. R-MC fell to 5-18 (4-10 ODAC) while BC improved to 13-9 (10-4 ODAC) on the season.
Parsons led the team with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. Katie Anderson joined Parsons in double-figures, finishing with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Hannah Livermon chipped in with 10 points and a game-high eight steals.
Bridgewater took an early lead and never trailed in the contest. Holly Morgan opened the scoring with a layup on the first Bridgewater possession of the game.
Randolph-Macon answered with a Parsons layup to tie the game at 10-10 as both teams traded baskets over the first eight minutes.
The Eagles answered as Molly Shelley converted a three-point play to spark a 9-2 Bridgewater run as it took a 19-12 lead with 8:51 remaining in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets chipped away at the Bridgewater lead and tied the game with an 11-4 run capped by a Parsons layup with 3:02 on the clock.
Bridgewater followed with six unanswered points as the Eagles built a 29-23 lead with 39 seconds to play.
A layup from Lauren Vugteveen with three seconds left pulled R-MC to within four at the intermission.
At the start of the second half, the Yellow Jackets struck first with an Anderson jumper, but Bridgewater answered, scoring six consecutive points to take a 35-27 lead with 17:48 to play.
A Caroline Young layup followed by a Livermon three-pointer pulled the Yellow Jackets within three, but the Eagles would go on a 10-0 run to take a 45-32 lead with 14 minutes left to play.
Randolph-Macon cut lead to 10 points with 1:46 to go but it was as close as they would get as Bridgewater scored the final seven points of the game to secure the victory.
Bridgewater held a 50-34 advantage on the glass, paced by Shannan Thorne who notched a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 boards. Morgan finished with 17 points and five rebounds while Jessica Mullen recorded 12 points and four steals.
The Eagles shot 50% from the floor, including a 58.1% mark in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Shenandoah for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
