Box Score SALEM, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball (19-9) capped off a 14-1 run with 3:48 left in the second half to pull away from top seeded Virginia Wesleyan and claim their fifth ODAC Tournament Championship Title 75-64.
The Yellow Jackets have earned the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will await the announcement of their opponent and regional location Monday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets trailed by one with 4:42 to play in the first half until Trent Walker converted a three point play to put R-MC on top 28-26. Virginia Wesleyan would not lead again in the game as Andre Simon chipped in 12 first half points and Randolph-Macon took a 34-32 advantage into the lockerroom at halftime.
A Chris Teasley three pointer with 16:47 to go in the second half tied the game 38-38 for Virginia Wesleyan but a jumper from Akeem Holmes and a layup by Simon pushed the Randolph-Macon lead to four.
Holmes sunk another layup on a pass from Lamar Giggetts with 9:56 on the clock to extend the Jackets advantage to 52-43.
The Marlins cut the lead to 56-52 on a Tre' Ford bucket with 7:28 to play but the Yellow Jackets responded with ten straight points as part of a 14-1 run that ended with two Connor Sullivan free throws at the 3:48 mark and R-MC leading 70-53.
A Joe Hassell dunk and three made free throws sealed the 2013 ODAC Tournament Championship for Randolph-Macon with a 75-64 victory over top seeded Virginia Wesleyan. R-MC has now won two of the last three conference championships and brings their total to five since joining the ODAC.
Simon led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Sullivan added 15 points while Holmes went for 11 points and eight boards. Hassell finished with 11 points and three rebounds.
Teasley had a team high 18 points for the defending champion Marlins, while Chris Astorga and Tre' Ford had 14 and 13, respectively.
Randolph-Macon shot 54.9% from the field and 42.9% from the three point line. Virginia Wesleyan went 39.3% from the field and held a 35-32 edge on the boards.
