ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman forward Sam Bowen (Collegeville, Pa./The Haverford School) and sophomore forward Andrew Oakes (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) each tallied goals, but Randolph-Macon was nipped by Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 in ODAC men's soccer action.

After the Marlins (13-4-1, 9-2) scored in the 11th minute, the Yellow Jackets (5-9-3, 2-6-3) answered six minutes later as freshman defender Jack Maxey (Salem, Va./Salem) fed Bowen, who beat the keeper inside the left post to knot the match at 1-1.

VWC added a pair of goals later in the period to take a 3-1 advantage at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets pulled to within one with less than six minutes remaining as Oakes finished on a pass from sophomore midfielder Josh Estrada (Chesterfield, Va./Richmond Christian) to make it 3-2. R-MC kept the pressure on the remainder of the game, as senior defender John Baskerville (West Point, N.Y./Carlisle) had one final shot go high with just over 10 seconds left in the contest.

The Marlins held a 22-18 advantage in shots, including 11-5 for shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Cris Lowe (Rome, Ga./Darlington Academy) finished with eight saves for the Yellow Jackets.

The season finale marked the final appearance for eight R-MC seniors: Lowe, Baskerville, Will Topping (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), Kevin Lukens (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth White Marsh), Jared Bouis (Whitestone, Va./Christchurch), David Sullivan (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Brock Barbeau (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) and Bradley Moore (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland).
