Box Score Ashland, VA – Virginia Wesleyan held Randolph-Macon to just 37.3% from the field on 19-of-51 shooting as the Marlins upended the Yellow Jackets 82-60 in ODAC action on Wednesday night.
Sarah Parsons led all scorers with 26 points in 37 minutes of action. Khajae Hester chipped in with six points, while Katie Anderson and Kellie Cortina both had five points. Anderson also pulled in 10 rebounds on the night.
VWC jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the first five minutes of play. The Yellow Jackets rebounded and pulled within two after Hester drained a jumper, assisted by Hannah Livermon. The Marlins would then go on a 39-19 run to take a 50-28 lead at halftime.
VWC scored six points in the first minute of the second half to push its lead to 26 points. The Yellow Jackets would pull within 15 at 73-58, but that was as close as they would get as the Marlins saw their lead grow to 22 points in the final minutes of the game.
VWC was led by Andrea Paphites who finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Nancy Kelly joined Paphites in double-figures, finishing with 13 points. Kerri-Leanne Taylor chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds for the Marlins.
The Marlins out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 51-45 and forced 28 turnovers, including 18 steals on the night.
R-MC will be back in action when it hosts Roanoke College on February 2nd for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
