Box Score Ashland, VA -- The Randolph-Macon College Women's Basketball team dropped a 69-63 decision to Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon. The Generals are now on a four game winning streak against the Yellow Jackets and have won five of the last seven meetings between the two schools.
Sarah Parsons led R-MC (5-14/4-6 ODAC) with 19 points and four steals while Khajae Hester added 15 points. Lauren Vugteveen joined the two in double-figures, finishing with her first collegiate double-double of 13 points to match her 13 rebounds.
Action started off at a good pace as both teams traded baskets early with WLU taking an 11-10 lead five minutes into play. WLU (7-10/4-6 ODAC) scored 12 straight points in less than two minutes to increase its lead to 11 points at 21-10 with 7:06 left on the clock.
The Yellow Jackets would answer and scored five consecutive points, capped by a Hester free-throw to cut the lead to five. WLU then closed the half scoring six points in the final three minutes to take an eight point 33-25 advantage into the intermission.
The Generals opened the second stanza strong, going on a 20-8 run to push the lead to 53-33 on a layup by Katy Wilson. R-MC refused to go down without a fight, battling its way back into the contest with a 28-10 run that just fell short. The Jackets would come as close as two points before falling 69-63.
Washington and Lee shot 41.9% from the field, while R-MC finished 34.4% from the floor. Randolph-Macon did force 20 General turnovers, including 12 steals.
Rachel Warrick led three players in double-figures for WLU finishing with 22 points while Wilson and Paige Corvino each chipped in with 15 points. Wilson also pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds on the afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on January 30th when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
