R-MC Women's Hoops Tops ODAC Leader Guilford, 77-68

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon College defeated ODAC leader Guilford, 77-68 Friday evening in Crenshaw Gymnasium behind double-figures from four different players.  The Yellow Jackets improved to 11-9 overall, 9-6 in the ODAC.  Guilford fell to 15-4 on the season, 12-2 in conference play.

Taylor Wieczorek led R-MC with 18 points and nine rebounds, just missing her fourth straight double-double.  Maggie Roy played a solid game at the point, chipping in 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while going 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.  She added a season-high six steals on the defensive end.  Christina Phelps came off the bench to contribute 12 points, while Sarah Parsons finished with 11 points on the evening.

Both squads battled in the first-half, with neither team taking more than a three point advantage.  R-MC led by three before a triple by Brittany Drew at the buzzer sent both teams into the locker room with the score knotted up at 33 all.

The Yellow Jackets came out hot in the second stanza, opening the half on a 9-2 run, capped by a lay up from Wieczorek that put R-MC up seven three minutes into play.

Guilford responded, going on an 11-3 run of its own to take a one point lead at 48-47 off a lay-up by Gabby Oglesby with 13 mimutes remaining.  From there the lead would change hands four times before the Jackets would make their decisive run.

Trailing 64-62 with just under five minutes to play, Randolph-Macon made its push, closing the game on a 15-4 run.  Wieczorek ignited the run, knocking down back-to-back turnaround jumpers to give R-MC the lead for good.  Down the stretch, the Jackets went 9-for-12 from the charity stripe to seal the win.  Parsons went 5-of-6 from the line during that stretch.

Randolph-Macon forced 23 Guilford turnovers that led to 13 steals, while R-MC turned it over just 13 times on the evening.  The Yellow Jackets shot 43.6% from the floor and 86.2% (25-29) from the free-throw line.

Jazlyn Gibbs and Oglesby paced four Quakers in double-figures with 15 points apiece. Oglesby added 11 boards to register a double-double on the evening.  Drew came off the bench to pitch in 13 points, while Morgan King finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

R-MC returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it plays host to Emory & Henry. Game time is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
