Box Score

ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon College women's basketball team avenged an early season loss to Bridgewater with a 79-65 victory in Crenshaw Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets improved to 13-10 overall, 11-7 in ODAC play.  The Eagles dropped to 14-8 on the season, 11-7 in the conference.  The two teams are now tied for fourth place in the ODAC.

Prior to today's contest, all four seniors, Jillian Asay, Molly Brown, Maggie Roy and Taylor Wieczorek were honored for their four years of dedication to the women's basketball program.   R-MC was led by a pair of 20-point performances.  Wieczorek led Jackets with a game-high 24 points and nine boards.  Fellow senior Maggie Roy chipped in 21 points, a career-high seven steals, and six rebounds, while Sarah Parsons added 17 points off of 5-of-7 shooting.

Randolph-Macon stormed out to a 15-6 lead after a Wieczorek jumper four minutes into play, as the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm from the floor. Over the next eight minutes, Bridgewater climbed its way back into the game tying the score at 19 with 8:11 to play in the opening half.

The Yellow Jackets worked their lead back to seven points with just over two minutes remaining in the first stanza after Roy drilled a three.  The Eagles closed out the opening stanza on a 6-2 spurt to cut the lead to three, at 31-28 heading into the intermission.

Coming out of halftime, R-MC pushed its lead to as many as five points before the Eagles stormed back to take a 38-37 lead off of a Holly Morgan three with 17:17 to play.  The Yellow Jackets used a 13-3 run to pull away over the middle of the second half, taking a 60-48 lead with just under eight minutes to play after Wieczorek knocked down a pair of free throws.

The Jackets kept the Eagles at bay, never allowing the lead to be cut lower than double-digits to close things out on their way to a 79-65 win.

Shannan Thorne led three Eagles in double-figures with 14 points and 10 boards.  Jenny Logan and Kelsey Taylor each added 13 points for Bridgewater.

R-MC forced 30 BC turnovers that led to 19 steals on the afternoon.  Bridgewater held a 39-34 advantage on the glass. Both squads shot 46.3% from the floor, with the Randolph-Macon hitting 31-of-its-67 shots from the field.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Friday, February 17th when they travel to Roanoke. Game-time is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
