Box Score ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon had five players score in double-figures in a, 82-66, ODAC victory over Hollins University Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC, while Hollins falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the league.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Katie Anderson who had a solid all-around game. The freshman finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and six steals on the afternoon. Sarah Parsons added 15 points and two steals. Hannah Livermon and Kellie Cortina notched a career high in points with 14 and 15, respectively. Freshman Khajae Hester also chipped in 10 points and a game-high six assists.
Lacie Forrest and Alexa Smith paced Hollins, each posting 15 points. Jasmine Greene also scored in double figures, finishing with 13 points, four assists and six steals.
R-MC jumped out to an early 12-7 lead following two made free-throws from Christina Phelps six minutes into play.
R-MC extended its lead to 11 at 28-17 with 6:31 to play when Cortina scored five consecutive points. The Yellow Jackets maintained a double-digit edge and took a 45-33 advantage into the intermission.
A Livermon jumper at the start of the second stanza continued the R-MC offensive attack and pushed the lead to 14 at 47-33.
Five straight points by Parsons gave R-MC a 56-39 lead with 14:20 go in the contest.
HU battled back and was able to cut the Randolph-Macon lead to nine when a Green layup made it 65-56 with 8:11 to go in the game.
Back-to-back scores by Cortina and Anderson would push the R-MC lead back to 13 and the Jackets sealed the game, making 5-of-6 free-throws down the stretch.
The Yellow Jackets out rebounded the HU 35-30 on the afternoon. R-MC forced 29 HU turnovers, including 14 steals. The Jackets were solid from the charity stripe as well, knocking down 28-of-35 free throws (80.0%).
Randolph-Macon returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Randolph College for a 7:00 p.m. game.
