Box Score

ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon fell to No. 13 Mary Washington, 70-63, Saturday afternoon in the finale of the 2012 Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting.  The Yellow Jackets dropped to 0-2, while the Eagles improved to 2-0.

All-Classic Team honoree, Katie Anderson posted a double-double of 25 points and 12 boards along with a team-high of four steals for R-MC.  Hannah Livermon finished with 12 points and Nicole Freeman chipped in nine points and one assist.

The Eagles out rebounded the Yellow Jackets 39-30 in the contest, including a 13-11 advantage on the offensive glass.  UMW shot 1-of-9 from behind the three-point arc, while R-MC knocked down 5-of-15 shots from three-point range.

The Eagles were led by the classic's most outstanding player Sam Partonen with 19 points, six assists and five steals. Fellow all-classic pick Carol Dye chipped in 18 points and eight boards, while teammate Aby Diop finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

After falling behind 8-2 early in the contest, the Yellow Jackets put together a 9-0 run and took an 11-10 lead on a Livermon bucket with 13 minutes remaining.

UMW responded with a 19-6 run, capped by a Dye layup to take a 29-17 advantage with five minutes left in the first period.

A Caroline Young basket pulled R-MC to within eight points with just over two minutes to go in the half,  but Mary Washington scored the final eight points prior to intermission to take a 40-24 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles were able to maintain a double-digit lead at the outset of the second-half before a 10-2 run by R-MC made the score 48-42 with just over 12 minutes to go in the game.

UMW scored 10 of the next 14 points to push its lead back into double figures at 58-46 with six minutes remaining in the contest.

Randolph-Macon continued to chip away and was able to pull within seven points after Anderson converted a three-point play to make the score 64-57 with two minutes to play, but that would be as close as the Jackets would get.

R-MC returns to action Tuesday, November 20th when they play host to Ferrum College. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
