Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Football team scored 28 unanswered points to close the game as the Yellow Jackets ran their winning streak to four with a 45-12 victory over Catholic in the first ever night game at Day field.
With the win, R-MC is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC. CUA drops to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the league.
The Yellow Jackets ground game rolled up 205 yards on the night, with Will McGhee running for 89 yards and Drake Sanders going for 69. R-MC H-Back Vance Hendren scored five touchdowns (4 rushing) on the night, while quarterback Zac Naccarato was 12-of-16 for 206 yards.
After gaining just 12 yards in the first quarter, R-MC reeled off 399 in the final three periods on its way to the win. Catholic which was averaging over 32 points and 377 yards of offense coming into the game, was held to 222 total yards and just 11 first-downs.
R-MC was able to control the clock, gaining 24 first-downs, running 71 plays for a total of 411 yards, while holding possession for 36 minutes of the contest.
With CUA leading 6-3, Hendren got his first score with 7:30 to go in the second quarter making it 10-6 in favor of R-MC.
The Jackets got the ball back with 6:34 to go in the quarter and were able to put together an 11 play drive to close the half, with Hendren plunging two yards for the score with 41 ticks left on the clock. The extra point made it 17-6 R-MC at halftime.
CUA rallied after holding R-MC without a first-down on the opening possession of the second half. The Cardinals needed just 1:53 to go 71 yards to pay dirt. Quarterback Kyle Benhard ran for a nine yard touchdown, but the extra point failed leaving it 17-12 Jackets.
On R-MC's ensuing drive, the Jackets got 40 yards on the ground from Sanders as part of a six play, 63 yard drive that was capped by a Hendren run from one yard out to make it a 24-12 game.
After holding CUA without a first-down on the Cardinals next possession, Randolph-Macon strung together a 76 yard drive that ended with a 32 yard hookup between Naccarato and Hendren to make it 31-12 and put the game on ice.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action next Saturday when it travels to ODAC rival Washington and Lee for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
