Box Score WINCHESTER, VA – A 20 yard field goal by Josh Storm with just one second remaining capped a comeback that saw Randolph-Macon score 11 points in the final 1:34 to top Shenandoah 27-24 in ODAC football action.
Trailing 17-10 with 7:36 remaining, Zac Naccarato found Luke Sellers for a 14 yard scoring strike to pull R-MC (5-3 / 3-2 ODAC) within one. The extra point missed keeping SU in the lead at 17-16.
Shenandoah (1-7 / 0-5 ODAC) looked to have regained control on its next possession when Cory Taylor connected with Qiydarr Murphy for a 33 yard touchdown pass to put SU out in front 24-16 with 3:16 to play in the game.
On the first play of its ensuing possession, R-MC wide receiver Luke Sellers took a reverse then threw a strike to Terry Clark for a 41 yard gain. After a Will McGhee rush of four yards, Naccarto completed three straight passes to get R-M- down to the SU nine yard line. McGhee ran for the touchdown on first-and-goal to bring R-MC within one.
On the two point conversion, Naccarato found a wide open Zach Midulla at the one yard line and the tight-end walked into the end zone to tie the game at 24 with 1:34 to play.
The Hornets got the ball back and on the second play of the drive, Abel Simpson picked off backup quarterback Shawn Lloyd at the SU 46.
With no timeouts and facing third down and eight from the R-MC 48, Naccarato and Sellers hooked up for a 33 yard gain down to the Hornets' 19 yard line.
Randolph-Macon then got a 13 yard run by McGhee and a three yard run by Jesse Knepp down to the SU3, setting up Storm for the game-winner.
McGhee finished the day with 158 yards on the day, while Vance Hendren added 54 yards and one score on the ground. Naccarato was 13-of-21 for 170 yards and Sellers was his most popular target, finding him five times for 97 yards.
Tom Solak had 2.5 sacks on the day for R-MC to go along with eight tackles. Danny Hunt also had eight stops, while David Fetter had six. The R-MC defense surrendered just seven points and 151 total yards in the second-half of play.
Jajuan Johnson finished with a game-high 18 tackles, including eight of the solo variety. Murphy finished the game with six catches for 169 yards, while David Bell grabbed three balls for 114. Taylor was 10-of-19 with two scores and an interception.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action next week in its home finale against Bridgewater. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
