Box Score

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team wrapped up ODAC play on Thursday night with a 3-0 victory over Randolph on Senior Night.   The win gives R-MC an 11-0 record in ODAC play, the number one seed in the league tournament and home court advantage throughout.

R-MC improves to 20-5 overall with the win over the WildCats.  Its marks the fourth consecutive and ninth time in 10 years the Yellow Jackets have reached the 20 win plateau.    The 11 ODAC wins is a school record and R-MC joins Washington and Lee (2003 & 2004) as the only programs in league history to reach 11 league wins in one season.

Mallory Carter led R-MC with 15 kills, while her fellow senior Jessica Sears had five kills on the night.    Prior to the match, R-MC recognized Carter and Sears for their contributions to both the program and the R-MC Community as a whole.  The duo has been part of 99 total wins since arriving in Ashland, including a staggering 38-3 (93%) record against ODAC opponents.  Coming into tonight, they have only lost one home match during their four years and have not dropped a match to a league opponent here in Crenshaw Gym.

Sears and Carter have been key cogs in the R-MC lineup, helping R-MC to three consecutive ODAC Tournament Championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2010.

Carter has been a mainstay in the R-MC lineup since arriving in Ashland four years ago.  The Moseley, VA native is the R-MC career leader in kills with 1,335 which also puts her 10th all-time in ODAC history.  Carter also has 209 career aces which is second all-time in the R-MC records books and leaves her is eighth-place all-time in league history.   During her career, Carter has registered 1,165 digs on defense, which is good for sixth-best in R-MC history.  A two-time All-ODAC selection, Carter led the ODAC and set a school record with 443 kills as a junior.  For her efforts, she was named First-Team All-ODAC, AVCA All-South Region and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.

Sears has been named All-ODAC in each of her three seasons as a Yellow Jacket.  As a freshman, she was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and a second-team all-league choice.   She was named First-Team All-ODAC as a sophomore and received second-team laurels as a junior.    A standout two-way player, Sears' 1,419 digs ranks second in school history, while her 921 kills is good for eighth in the R-MC record books.  A standout in the classroom, Sears has been named to the ODAC All-Academic Team on three occasions.  Following the 2011 season, Sears was honored by the league's Sports Information Directors as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Randolph (7-21 / 2-9 ODAC) got eight kills from Grayce Darden and seven kills from Sam Sublett.

Randolph-Macon will wrap up regular season play at Mary Baldwin on Saturday.  R-MC will take on MBC at 5:00 and Maryville at 7:00 in a key South Region match.
