Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Freshman Andrew Oakes scored just 1:40 into the second half on a breakaway shot to give the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College (3-6-1, 2-3) Monday afternoon.
After the score, VWC registered six shots, but the 1-0 lead held up for Randolph-Macon (2-6-2, 2-3) to the final horn.
Chris Lowe seized the shutout win in goal for the Yellow Jackets, playing 90 minutes and stopping all three Marlins' shots on goal.
Oakes led the R-MC offensive charge with four shots on the day. David Cartmill and Will Topping also pitched in with one shot each.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot R-MC 13-6 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, but could not capitalize.
R-MC will return to the field on Friday, October 5th (Family Weekend) to face ODAC opponent Emory and Henry at 4:30 p.m.
