Box Score GREENSBORO, NC--- A 23-6 run over the final five minutes of play helped Guilford break open a close contest en route to a 90-75 victory over Randolph-Macon Friday evening at Ragan-Brown Field House in Greensboro.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 4-6, 2-3 in the ODAC while the Quakers improved to 8-2, 5-0 in league play.
Maggie Roy led four players in double-figures for R-MC, finishing with 17 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Wieczorek chipped in with 15 points and eight boards, while Sarah Parsons tossed in 11 markers on the evening. Freshman Kellie Cortina just missed her first ever double-double, finishing with 14 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first stanza. With the score tied at 22, R-MC took its first lead on a Parsons free-throw with seven minutes remaining in the first-half. The two squads continued to trade leads before the Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 9-4 run to take a 41-37 advantage into the intermission.
The second-half proved to be much of the same, with neither team able to open up more than a five point lead through the first 12 minutes of play.
Trailing 66-61 with 7:40 to play, R-MC went on an 8-1 run. A Molly Brown three pointer and a Wieczorek jumper gave Randolph-Macon a 69-67 lead with just over five minutes remaining.
A three-pointer by Jazlyn Gibbs on GC's ensuing possession sparked the decisive run that saw the Quakers make 12 trips to the foul line, converting on all but one attempt from the charity stripe. Guilford was 26-of-33 from the free-throw line on the night.
R-MC made 28-of-64 (43.8%) field goal attempts from the floor and knocked down 14-of-18 free-throw chances.
Gabby Oglesby paced Guilford with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocks. The Quakers made 49.2% of its shots from the floor, making 29-of-59 attempts on the evening.
The Jackets look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Emory & Henry for another ODAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
