Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA--- Randolph-Macon tied Lynchburg, 0-0 Wednesday evening at Shellenberger field on the campus of Lynchburg College. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-2-2, 1-0-2 in ODAC-play, while the Hornets fell to 2-4-2, 0-0-2 in the conference.
Lynchburg captured the ODAC Championship and advanced to the National Championship game last year where they fell to Trinity, 2-1 in overtime. The tie snapped a three game losing streak that R-MC had against LC, dating back to 2007 when the men topped the Hornets, 3-1 at home.
Lynchburg also earned a scoreless tie against fellow ODAC-foe Roanoke, who was ranked #13 in the nation at the time.
Both teams had ample opportunities to get on the scoreboard throughout the contest. The Yellow Jackets had two great chances on breakaways with tough angles. The first came when Tommy Fisher hooked up with Fernando Rochi on a give-and-go that came up just short in the first half. In the second stanza, Bradley Moore won a ball off pressing the back, but was turned away by the keeper on a near post save.
LC outshot R-MC 18-16 on the evening; both teams were even with seven shots on goal. Randolph-Macon held a 4-2 edge in shots in the first extra period, while Lynchburg recorded a 2-1 advantage in the second overtime.
Ethan Cornelio led the Yellow Jackets with four shots, while David Sullivan chipped in with three. Jordan Clark led the Hornets with five shots on the match.
Matty Rocawich played all but 14 minutes in goal for Randolph-Macon, as he was pulled after injuring his chin.
The keeper showed heart, returning to the game and finishing with five saves. Rocawich has allowed just one goal in three ODAC-matches, totaling 18 saves during that span. Cris Lowe replaced him for his time missed defending the net, picking up two saves.
Michael Releford played the entire contest in goal for Lynchburg, registering seven saves.
Randolph-Macon looks to stay unbeaten in ODAC-action Saturday, September 24th when they travel to Bristol, Virginia to take on Emory & Henry. Kick-off is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
