Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Mallory Carter recorded 25 kills in leading Randolph-Macon to a 3-0 victory over Randolph College in ODAC Volleyball action Wednesday evening.
Carter hit .600 for the match, putting away 25-of-40 kill attempts on the night for the Yellow Jackets, who improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the league. Carter also got help on the offensive side of the net from classmate Jessica Sears who had eight kills in the win, while Maggie Holbert led the way with 25 assists.
Defensively, Sears had 15 digs, while Carter had 11 and Caroline Brown chipped in with eight stops of her own. Casey West also had two blocks for R-MC as well.
In game one, R-MC found itself up 14-9 before a Randolph ball handling error and a kill by Sears extended the lead to 16-9. The WildCats cut it to 16-10, the Yellow Jackets then reeled off nine of the next 11 points to close out the first game.
In game two, the Jackets held an 18-14 advantage, when they scored four straight points to take a 22-14 lead. Back-to-back points by Randolph cut it to 22-16, but three kills by Carter helped the Jackets close out the game.
R-MC finished out the match in game three, taking early 8-1 lead on a Hillary Jessee kill. Randolph would rally to tie the game 11-11, before the Yellow Jackets rebounded by taking 10 of the next 11 points to pull away, eventually winning the game 25-17.
Randolph-Macon will travel to Atlanta to take part in the Emory University Invitational. It will face Berry at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
