Box Score ASHLAND, VA--- Randolph Macon tied Washington and Lee, 0-0 Wednesday evening in men's soccer action. Both teams now sit with a record of 1-2-1, 0-0-1 on the year.
Both squads had plenty of opportunities in regulation. R-MC got it's best shot off a strike from Ethan Cornelio from just outside the box. The shot struck off the goalies chest and bounced around the box before being picked up. WLU got it's best chance with just five minutes remaining, but the effort was turned away on a diving save by goalkeeper Matty Rocawich.
After both teams battled throughout two overtimes the Yellow Jackets were awarded a penalty shot off a handball call from just outside the box with less than a minute to play. However, the shot deflected off the human wall and the second opportunity sailed high to end play.
Although the game was scoreless, it was action packed throughout. Both teams combined for 35 shots on the afternoon.
Rocawich led a valant effort on the defensive end for R-MC. He played all 110:00 minutes on the contest and recorded nine saves. Ben Petitto matched his effort, playing the entire game and finishing with seven saves on the evening.
Mike Urbanik paced Randolph-Macon with four shots in the game. Cornelio and Rodrigo Walsh each chipped in two shots on the match.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, September 17th as they host Bridgewater College. The contest is set for a 12:00 p.m. start.
