Box Score BRIDGEWATER, VA--- Randolph-Macon lost to Ferrum, 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Upper 90 Soccer Challenge in the Valley at Bridgewater. The men fell to 1-2 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 2-3-1 on the year.
The Yellow Jackets dropped the close decision in just the second meeting between the two squads since 1999. R-MC defeated FC, 2-1 in overtime last season.
Asa Fox scored in the 28th minute of the first stanza, providing what would prove to be the eventual game-winner. The Yellow Jackets really applied pressure in the second half, registering 12 shots in the period, including three on goal. However, they just could not get the ball to bounce their way, getting shut-out for the second time this season.
Ethan Cornelio led R-MC with seven shots on the afternoon. Mike Urbanik, Jared Bouis, and Tyler Dorr each added two shots in the contest.
David Gupta picked up the victory in goal for the Panthers, recording four saves. Walter Romano relieved him in net for just under 14 minutes.
Matty Rocawich took the loss between the pipe for the Yellow Jackets. He finished the day with two saves, both in the first half.
Randolph-Macon outshot Ferrum, 19-7 in the match, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. The men also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
R-MC returns to action Wednesday, September 14th when they host Washington and Lee. Kick-off is set for a 4:30 p.m. start in Ashland.
