Box Score Jordan Cantrell paced four Yellow Jackets in double figures with 17 points as Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball (16-4 / 14-1 ODAC) picked up an 82-65 ODAC road win over Guilford Friday night.
R-MC improves to 16-4 overall and 14-1 in the conference. The Jackets have won all 11 of their games in 2011 and have run their conference win streak to 14. Guilford drops to 11-8 overall with a 7-7 conference mark.
Cantrell knocked down 3-of-4 three pointers for 17 points during her nine minutes on the court to lead the Yellow Jackets offensively. Maggie Roy added 15 and Katie Williams finished with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists while Taylor Wieczorek notched her fifth straight double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
A Cantrell three with 4:28 to play in the first gave Randolph-Macon put the Jackets up 29-20 but three straight points from Guilford cut the lead to six. Wieczorek then knocked down a jumper to send R-MC into the intermission with a 33-25 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets came out of the locker firing with a 23-5 run that started on Wieczorek's first half jumper. A Cantrell free throw with 12:07 to play capped the offensive streak and put Randolph-Macon up 54-30.
With 7:13 remaining Guilford cut the deficit to 16 after a layup from Gabby Oglesby and 11 points coming from the charity stripe. Oglesby finished with a team high 15 points and nine rebounds.
R-MC answered with layups from Molly Brown and Katie Williams to end the threat before finishing off the Quakers 82-65.
The Yellow Jackets shot 40.3% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc while Guilford 32.8% shooting and just three made trifectas. R-MC held a slight 44-42 edge on the glass.
Randolph-Macon travels to Emory and Henry Saturday, February 5th for a 4:00 ODAC contest.
