Box Score Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball placed three players in double figure scoring on the way to an 81-63 win over Hollins in Ashland on Saturday. With the win, R-MC claims the top seed in the 2011 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament and will face No. 8 seed Lynchburg Thursday, February 24th at 1:00 in the Salem Civic Center.
Taylor Wieczorek scored a team high 15 points for the Yellow Jackets to go with her eight rebounds. Maggie Roy and Jillian Asay joined in double figure scoring with 11 each. Senior Katie Williams finished with seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Her classmate Jennifer O'Briant four points, five rebounds and two assists.
Tamara Phillips paced Hollins with a game high 23 points while Jasmine Greene chipped in with eight points and nine boards.
Asay knocked down a three with 9:37 to in the first that capped a 9-0 Randolph-Macon run that put the Jackets up 20-6.
Two Lindsey Sharman foul shots four minutes later gave R-MC their biggest lead of the half at 30-11.
Hollins battled back with a 10-1 run finished off with a pair of Lacie Forrest free throws at the 1:37 mark.
The two teams traded baskets over the final minute of the first half and the Jackets took a 35-25 advantage into the locker room.
Hollins rallied early in the second half and cut the Randolph-Macon lead to seven at 37-30 when Chanci Wright converted a three point play.
R-MC ended the Hollins run with a Wieczorek jumper and methodically built their lead to 18 on a Jordan Cantrell free throw.
Randolph-Macon led by as many as 20 in the second half before winning by a final of 81-63.
The Yellow Jackets now head to the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament in Salem, VA as the top seed where they will take on the eighth seeded Hornets of Lynchburg College Thursday, February 24th at 1:00. All ODAC Tournament games will be held in the Salem Civic Center.
