Box Score The Yellow Jackets rallied from a 22 point deficit and pulled within four with 24 seconds to go but Bridgewater's defense held on in the final seconds to down Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball (17-6 / 15-3 ODAC) 72-68 in Harrisonburg Saturday.
R-MC's Maggie Roy scored a team high 20 points and Taylor Wieczorek notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Jackets offensively. Molly Brown chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds.
The Eagles were led by Jessica Mullen (26 points), Jordan Burkholder (19 points, eight rebounds) and Jenny Logan (13 points) who accounted for 80.5% of Bridgewater's scoring. Katelynn Hottinger pulled in ten boards to lead BC who held a 48-42 rebounding edge.
A Mullen three pointer capped a 13-0 run by the Eagles with 8:06 to play, giving Bridgewater a 25-9 edge. Mullen knocked down another trifecta a minute before halftime to put BC up 18 but a Jordan Cantrell two made the score 36-20 at intermission.
Burkholder sunk a layup to put the Eagles up by 22 with 17:54 to play before the Yellow Jackets went on an 18-8 run, capped by a Lindsay Sharman layup, to pull within 10 at 54-42.
Randolph-Macon continued to chip away at the Bridgewater lead and cut the deficit to four when senior guard Katie Williams knocked down a triple with 24 seconds to go.
After the Eagles missed two free throws, the Jackets could not convert on the offensive end and Bridgewater held on to win by a final of 72-68.
R-MC returns to the hardwood Friday, February 18th when they host Roanoke College for a 7:00 game. Friday the Yellow Jackets are asking their fans to wear pink to the game in support of the WBCA Pink Zone which benefits the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
