Women's Basketball Falls in ODAC Action to Washington and Lee, 72-63

LEXINGTON, Va--- Randolph-Macon dropped a 72-63 decision to Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon.  The women fell to 2-4, 1-2 in conference play, while the Generals improved to 2-3, 1-1 in the ODAC.

R-MC is now 2-2 in its last four matchups with W&L, with each team winning on its home floor and the Yellow Jackets picking up a victory in last year's conference tournament.

After a Taylor Wieczorek jumper gave Randolph-Macon an early 3-0 lead, the Generals put together a 19-7 run to pull in front 19-10.  The Yellow Jackets battled back, scoring the next nine points of the contest to tie the game at 19 off a conventional three point play by Maggie Roy with seven minutes remaining. 

W&L then regained the lead, scoring five straight points over the next two minutes.  The Generals led by as many as seven before a Sarah Parsons jumper cut it to five, 32-27 as time expired in the first stanza.

Washington and Lee opened the second half on an 8-2 run over the opening three minutes to gain the largest lead of the contest, 40-29. 

Trailing 53-46 with eight minutes to play, R-MC clawed its way back into the game with an 11-4 spurt over the next three minutes to tie the game at 57 off a Wieczorek jump shot.  W&L responded, as Katy Wilson scored five quick points to give the Generals a three point advantage.  The Generals connected on 8-of-10 from the charity stripe in the closing minutes to seal the win.

Parsons led all scorers on the day posting 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  The freshman from Glen Allen, Va is averaging better than 22 points per contest over her last three games.  Wieczorek recorded her first double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 16 rebounds.  Jillian Asay and Roy chipped in on the defensive side of the ball, picking up three steals each.

Meg Ingram led four scorers in double-figures for the Generals, totaling 23 points and seven rebounds.  Becca Bolton added a double-double of 17 markers and 11 boards.

Washington and Lee out rebounded Randolph-Macon, 43-40 on the afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets held a 16-12 edge on the offensive glass and forced 17 turnovers.  R-MC shot just 34.5% from the field, but hit a scorching 54.5% (6-11) from behind the arc.  W&L shot 41.7% from the field and hit 15-of-19 free throws in the game.|

Randolph-Macon returns to action Tuesday, December 6th as they play host to Randolph.  Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
