Balanced Scoring and Pressure Defense Lift R-MC Women's Basketball over Lynchburg, 83-55

ASHLAND, Va --- Randolph-Macon topped Lynchburg, 83-55, Tuesday evening in Ashland.  The Yellow Jackets improve to 2-3, 1-1 in ODAC play, while the Hornets fell to 0-5, 0-2 in the league.

Taylor Wieczorek led four players in double figures, pouring in 26 points and grabbing nine boards on the evening.  Freshman Sarah Parsons had another stellar evening for Randolph-Macon dropping in 19 points and four boards, while Maggie Roy and Molly Brown chipped in with 10 points each.

Randolph-Macon's senior class stepped up early in the game, scoring the first 10 points of the contest to take an early 10-7 lead, six minutes into play.  R-MC would push its advantage to 14-7 before Lynchburg put together a 9-2 run to even the score midway through the first period. 

Both teams battled back and forth over the next seven minutes, with the lead changing hands four different times before the Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 6-2 run to take a 29-26 advantage into the intermission.  Lindsey Sharman led the charge for R-MC scoring four straight points and grabbing two rebounds down the stretch in her first action of the season.  Wieczorek paced the home team with 12 points and six boards in the first stanza.

Randolph-Macon opened the second half on a 25-9 run, capped by a Parsons jumper to take a 54-35 advantage midway through the half.  The run was sparked by Wieczorek who scored the first six points of the period.  R-MC would continue to put pressure on the ball and push the tempo, leading by as many as 25 after five straight points by Roy. 

Shannon Allan paced LC with 16 points and seven boards, while Katie Crump chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets used pressure defense to pick up the win, forcing 31 turnovers in the contest.  The women also shot a scorching 54% from the field in the second half, 46% or the game and outscored the Hornets 54-29 in the final period.

The women return to action Saturday, December 3rd when they travel to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee in ODAC action.  Tip-off is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
