Box Score ASHLAND, VA--- Randolph-Macon fell to Eastern Mennonite, 85-78, Tuesday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium in both squads ODAC opener. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-3, 0-1 in the ODAC on the young season, while the Royals improved to 3-0, 1-0 in conference play.
EMU shot a scorching 53.1% from the field and went 12-16 from the free throw line in the final minute of play to seal the victory. The Royals held 50-29 edge in points off the bench and outscored the Yellow Jackets 19-5 in second chance points.
Both teams traded baskets at the beginning of the first stanza, with a 11-11 tie six minutes in. R-MC then went on a 10-2 run over the next five minutes to go up eight off five straight points by Sarah Parsons. Eastern Mennonite battled back, closing the first half on a 16-7 run to enter the intermission down just two, 38-36, after two free throws by Keyla Baltimore with three seconds remaining.
The second half proved to be the same competitive matchup between both teams, as the Yellow Jackets and Royals traded blows for the first 15 minutes of action. With the score tied at 61 with just over five minutes to play, EMU went on a 14-7 run over the next four minutes to take a 75-67 lead with a minute remaining. The Royals then made their free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
Eastern Mennonite out rebounded Randolph-Macon 54-33 in the contest. The Yellow Jackets forced 25 turnovers on the evening.
Parsons led all scorers in double figures with a career-best 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Taylor Wieczorek chipped in 16 points and seven boards, while Maggie Roy added a well-rounded game of 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Raiven Patterson paced five scorers in double figures for the Royals with 18 points and six rebounds. Bianca Ygarza contributed 15 points, while Stephanie Rheinheimer and Sara Lamneck tossed in 12 markers each.
The women return to action Tuesday, November 29th as they play host to Lynchburg. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m.
