Box Score ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon lost to Averett, 3-0 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. The men fell to 3-4-2 on the season, while the Cougars improved to 7-3-1 this year.
Randolph-Macon leads the series record 5-2-1 dating back to 1999. Averett has won the last two contests.
After a scoreless first half, Timi Heikkonen found Nathan Brown to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute. Ten minutes later, Heikkonen scored on a penalty kick after a foul was called on Randolph-Macon inside the box. Richard Bjornander found the back of the net with seven minutes remaining to give the final score.
Averett outshot R-MC 16-4 on the day. The Cougars held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Matty Rocawich took the loss in goal for the Yellow Jackets, registering seven saves on the day. Cris Lowe also saw some action protecting the net.
Nate Barker picked up the win for Averett, stopping two shots.
The men return to action Saturday, October 8th as they host ODAC-foe Randolph. Kick-off is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
