Box Score FARMVILLE, Va--- Ethan Cornelio scored off a direct kick in the 103rd minute of double overtime to lift Randolph-Macon over ODAC-rival Hampden-Sydney, 3-2 Saturday afternoon in Farmville. The men improved to 6-6-2, 5-3-2 in the conference, while the Tigers fell to 8-8, 3-6 in ODAC play.
Randolph-Macon jumped took an early lead off an unassisted score by David Sullivan in the 13th minute. Seven minutes later, Bryan Talbert evened the score off a shot from the right side of the box. The game remained tied heading into the intermission.
Hampden-Sydney took a 2-1 lead 20 minutes into the second half when Bryan Hughes crossed a ball to Bryan Wharton for the score. In the 82nd minute, Evan Verbeek found Tommy Fisher to tie the game and force overtime.
After a missed opportunity by the Tigers, Cornelio drilled in the game-winner from just outside the box in the second extra period.
Matty Rocawich finished with four saves, earning the victory for the Yellow Jackets. Duncan Oliphant took the loss for the Tigers.
H-SC outshot R-MC, 17-10 including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Both teams took four corner kicks on the afternoon.
Randolph-Macon finishes its regular season Tuesday, October 25th as they host Shenandoah. Game-time is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
