Box Score Randolph-Macon junior Guard Maggie Roy dropped in a game high 24 points including four trifectas as R-MC Women's Basketball used a second half rally to down Guilford 70-62 in Ashland Friday.
The Yellow Jackets lead by nine after a 15-6 opening up that was finished off by a Lindsay Sharman free throw with just over 11 minutes to go in the first.
Guilford's Jazlyn Gibbs converted a layup to cut the Randolph-Macon advantage to just two with 1:13 left. Kayla Adams then banked in a three as time expired in the first half to give the Quakers their first lead 28-27 at halftime.
The Quakers went up 30-27 when Morgan King sunk a layup to open the second half but the Yellow Jackets responded with a two from Roy that ignited a 14-5 run to put R-MC up 41-35 with just under 12 to play.
Three pointers from Jordan Cantrell and Jillian Asay countered the Guilford attack and extended Randolph-Macon's lead to 47-39 before Roy dropped in a layup that put the Jackets up 10.
Guilford rallied to score nine of the game's next 11 points before Roy halted the run with a three to give R-MC a 54-48 advantage with 5:33 to play.
A King layup pulled the Quakers within four at the 2:25 mark but Randolph-Macon went 7-for-9 from the free throw line in the final minutes to secure the 70-62 victory.
Roy tied a career high with 24 points to go with seven rebounds. Senior Katie Williams joined her in double figures with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Taylor Wieczorek pulled in a game high 10 rebounds and chipped in with eight points.
King and Gibbs paced the Guilford attack with 17 points each, King also hauled in 10 boards.
The Yellow Jackets held a 42-36 rebounding edge and shot 37.5% from the field.
Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball will be back in action Saturday, January 8th when they host Emory & Henry for a 4:00 ODAC contest.
