Randolph-Macon Holds off Eastern Mennonite 61-52; Molly Ariail Breaks R-MC Career Rebounding Record

ASHLAND, VA-Yellow Jackets' senior Molly Ariail finished with 21 points and six rebounds as R-MC Women's Hoops held off EMU 61-52 in Ashland Tuesday night. Ariail's six rebounds gave her 964 for her career, pushing her past Karen Eye '87 as the all-time career rebounding leader in Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball history.

 R-MC took off from the opening tip with a 12-4 run capped by Molly Brown (Floyd, VA/ Floyd County) who knocked down a two point jumper with 15:13 to go in the first stanza.

Taylor Wieczorek (Grasonville, MD/ Severn) put the Yellow Jackets up 24-12 at the 5:38 mark when she knocked down a mid-range jumper of her own.

EMU forward Sara Lamneck sunk a basket one minute before halftime to finish off a 14-4 Royals' run. R-MC took a 29-26 advantage into the locker room.

The two teams exchanged baskets for the first nine minutes of the second half until Lamneck converted two free throws, capping a 7-0 EMU run and giving the Royals their first lead since very early in the first half, 40-39.

Addie Bashorun extended the Eastern Mennonite lead to six points when she dropped in a layup with 8:15 to play.

The Yellow Jackets quickly rallied to regain the lead on two made free throws by Molly Ariail (York, PA/ York Suburban) with 4:03 remaining, putting R-MC up 50-49

Randolph-Macon continued their hot shooting and finished the game on a 20-5 run to put Eastern Mennonite away 61-52.

Ariail led all scorers with 21 points while also pulling in six rebounds. With Ariail's third rebound of the game, she became the all-time career rebound leader in Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball history. Ariail passed Karen Eye's mark of 960 career boards and finished the game with 964 rebounds for her career.

Brittany Synder and Danielle Rittenhouse paced the Royals' offense with nine points apiece. Miranda Wolfe chipped in with eight points while pulling in a game high ten rebounds.

Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball will be back in action Thursday, February 11th, when they travel to Hollins University for a 7:00 p.m. game.
