Box Score LEXINGTON, VA-Maggie Roy led three Yellow Jackets in double
figures but Washington and Lee overcame Randolph-Macon Women's
Basketball 73-56 in Lexington Saturday. R-MC falls to 16-6 (14-4
ODAC) while W&L improve to 13-8 (12-5 ODAC) on the season.
Katie Williams (Warrenton, VA/ Fauquier) knocked down a three
with 13:47 to play in the first half to give Randolph-Macon a 12-11
advantage.
Washington and Lee then used a 16-0 run, sparked by a three from
Allie Long, that ended on a three by Meg Ingram to put the Generals
up 27-12.
The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the first half
and W&L took a 42-25 advantage into the locker room at
halftime.
Randolph-Macon chipped away at the Washington and Lee lead in
the second half, getting to within seven points when Molly Ariail
(York, PA/ York Suburban) converted a three point play with 6:40 to
play.
Becca Bolton then responded with a jumper for the Generals to go
on top by nine before Taylor Wieczorek (Grasonville, MD/ Severn)
knocked down a jumper of her own to leave the Yellow Jackets down
just seven at 60-53 with 4:54 to go.
Bolton answered again with a jumper to spark a 13-3 W&L
final run, giving the Generals the 73-56 win.
Roy (Richmond, VA/ Mill Godwin) paced three Yellow Jackets in
double figures with 13 points. Ariail and Wieczorek chipped in with
10 points each, Ariail pulled in a team high eight rebounds.
Washington and Lee held a 51-28 advantage on the glass, paced by
Bolton who notched a double-double with a game high 21 points and
15 boards. Ingram finished with 18 points and eight rebounds while
Felice Herman also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10
boards.
Randolph-Macon returns to the court Friday, February
19th, when they host Guilford College for a 7:00 pm
game. Friday's game will be R-MC's annual WBCA Pink Zone game and
fans are encouraged to wear pink. Pink T-Shirts will be on sale for
12 dollars and all proceeds benefit Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
