Box Score Maggie Roy sunk a pair of free throws with seven seconds on the clock to give Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball a 48-47 road win over Lynchburg on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets are now 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the ODAC.
Lynchburg started the game on a 16-9 run capped on a three pointer from Annie Terry with 11:38 to play in the first half.
The Jackets responded by scoring the next 11 points and took a four point lead when Roy connected from beyond the arc with 6:48 left in the half. A Roy layup put Randolph-Macon up 31-23 heading into intermission.
Freshman center Lindsey Sharman gave the Jackets a 38-27 advantage after knocking down a pair of free throws with 15:37 remaining.
Lynchburg battled back with a 15-2 run and kept Randolph-Macon without a field goal for nine and a half minutes. Carly Greenlief hit two free throws to put the Hornets ahead 42-40 with just over seven minutes to play.
R-MC's Katie Williams drew a foul with six minutes on the clock and converted two shots at the line to retie the game at 42-42.
A free throw from Caitlin Falls and Courtney Brewster three put LC back on top 46-42 before layups from Jennifer O'Briant and Christina Phelps knotted the score at 46-46 with two minutes remaining.
Alexander Roslyn then knocked down one of two free throws to put the Hornets up one but the Jackets' Roy drew a foul with seven seconds left and converted both shots to give Randolph-Macon the 48-47 victory.
R-MC held a 48-41 rebounding advantage and shot 28.1% from the field. LC had a 32.1% field goal percent for the game.
Sharman paced the Jackets' offense with 13 points and seven rebounds while Roy finished with 12 points. Taylor Wieczorek chipped in with six points and seven boards.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Saturday, December 4th when they host defending ODAC champions Washington and Lee for a 4:00 ODAC contest.
